Here at The Old Vicarage care home in Leigh, near Sherborne, we take great pride in the close relationship we have formed with the neighbouring communities over the years.
This weekend we held our grand summer fete and it was truly a fabulous event – both for our residents and also for those from Leigh and Sherborne who came along and took part.
The event featured vintage cars, stalls, a dog show, a puppet show and musical entertainment, all planned by our home’s activity coordinator, Gill, and with grateful help from staff, relatives and a team of volunteers.
I am grateful to everyone who made the event possible, including our neighbours Jossie and Carrie who allowed us to use their garden for the dog show and our residents who managed stalls and also judged the dog show.
I would like to send a special message of thanks to Peter and David from the neighbouring community for helping us both prior and during the party with setting-up. Thanks too to the many local businesses who kindly contributed prizes to our raffle.
This includes Mountain Warehouse Sherborne, Melbury Gallery, Hi Ho Silver Sherborne, Olivers Sherborne, The Three Wishes, The Chetnole Inn, Leigh Post Office, Parsons Butchers, Present Company, White Stuff, Forever England, Bailey Ridge, Ecco Gelato, WHSmith, Hunts Food Service and Longman Cheese Sales Yeovil.
In total, we were delighted to raise £730, which will be donated to two charities – as chosen by our residents – CLIC Sargent and Cancer Care Dorset.
Events such as these play a key part of the varied programme of activities here at The Old Vicarage and are a great way of bringing residents together with the community.
I would therefore like to extend my warm thanks and sincere wishes to everyone who took part and we look forward to welcoming you to more events at our home soon.
